    Historic Splendor and Impressive Architecture

The famous pilgrimage church Madonna del Sasso, one of the most important landmarks of the Italian-speaking Switzerland, was built around 1485 at the initiative of the Franciscan friar Frá Bartolomeo.

The extraordinary location on a rocky outcrop above Lake Maggiore gives the church an incomparable aura and makes it a spiritual and cultural highlight of the region.

Inside, the artistically preserved image of the Madonna from 1480 and the magnificent frescoes by the artist Alessandro Gorla impress – masterpieces that powerfully unite history and faith.
